Welcome to the DC_Nation Encyclopedia, the wiki informational hub for the Livejournal-based "DC Nation" role-playing collective. We can be found at
.
The purpose of this wiki is to catalog the in-game divergences from the continuity of mainline DC Comics in order for players and readers of "DC Nation" to better follow the history of their characters. Each character entry will explain the divergences in game their character has from "real life" DC Comics or, in the case of original characters that inhabit the game, their complete wiki origin and how they interact with the DC Universe in this game is here so that people can learn to love them as much as we do.
Basic Canon Divergence"Don't feel bad..half the muns can't keep our canons straight anyway. It's DC, it arrives on your doorstep pre-broken with half-baked retcons on the side."- Jericho on "Dear Mun"
So where do we stop with DC canon and start with our own?
The following canon cut-offs are guidelines more than hard and fast rules. While the game administrators and other players are here to help sort out the myriad of canon possibilities presented by the game and mainline DC. Ultimately, the players are responsible for their own characters' stories, including their canon. This game also features "flashback" scenes which often fill in times within a character's life which have lasting effects on the story and character interpretation. Because of these, and DC's continued attempts at Crisis-style reboots, the following "cutoffs" are in place.
Titans: The Technis Imperative is the firm cut-off for Titans storylines. Select stories like
Graduation Day and Geoff Johns'
A Kid's Game happened, but we cherry-picked Devin Grayson's run and didn't use a lot of Jonhs stuff because by that point we were writing our own. (We have over five years of history.) The "we aren't using 99% of this work after this point" line was Raven's return. She has returned, but she has not been de-aged, nor has Rose lost an eye in her attempts at father worship.
The Return of Donna Troy was handled through a completely different story. We do have new Titans such as Kid Devil, Miss Martian, and Jamie Reyes (who goes by "Scarab" since Ted Kord is still around), but they came into being in their own ways. The five founding Titans were, and always have been, close friends despite their differences.
Gothamites/Bludhaven/Birds of Prey/Etc.: No Man's Land is the last solid story we are using for all of Gotham. There are other stories we are using after that, but they vary from character to character. The Birds of Prey stories cover everything up to the Brainac virus infecting Oracle. (She would have been married at that point in our canon and Dick probably would have noticed something like that happening.) Black Canary is not married to or romantically involved with Oliver Queen at this time.
Nightwing had the Parkthorne and Haly's destroyed by Blockbuster but after that he got some help dealing with the criminal who's currently in a vegetative state due to his own machinations. The controversial events of
Nightwing #91 were fended off by the hero. Tarantula has since died pathetically. Jason Todd was actually brought back to life in our canon
before DC did the job, but due to the nature of his return his history is something of an open book. Much of it he doesn't even remember. Tim Drake had his father attacked, but not killed. Dana Drake is alive and doing well.
The Dini-verse move
Mystery of the Batwoman was played out in out in our canon with some plot exceptions. Kathy Duquesne is the current Batwoman, though Kate Kane has also emerged sporting the same title. Batman - who is and will likely remain Bruce Wayne - did launch the Brother I satellite and was revealed to have his mind altered after the Dr. Light attack on Sue Dibny which was revealed in
Identity Crisis. The situation still plagues some of Batman's relationships, though recently he has discovered that pissing his friends off doesn't help anyone or keep the world safer. He's in the process of repairing many of those burnt bridges.
Outsiders: Batman's Outsiders did happen and those characters have subsequently been involved with the current Outsiders when someone was hunting past and present members of the team. Arsenal and Nightwing's team never existed. A new Outsiders was formed with Sand as the leader with Detective Chimp, Brainwave, and Tefe Holland among others as members. Some members like Grace Choi are still doing their own thing while Indigo remains under repair.
JLA: Canon cut-off for the JLA #84-85 in which Martian Manhunter, in his attempts to heal Scorch and let go of his fear of fire inadvertently released the Fernus personality within himself. This was post
Identity Crisis but pre-
Countdown to Infinite Crisis. Max Lord is alive and his "black king" moments were due to Brother I controlling his cybernetics making him a mind-controlled agent of alien powers. Wally lost Linda and the kids but did not get them back and is divorced at this point. He is still the Flash, though Barry Allen has returned.
Arrows: Cut-off for Ollie, Connor, and Mia is the Judd Winnack story
City Walls.
Archer's Quest did not happen in our canon, though Catman has returned to his dangerous, well-built ways. Mia is HIV positive and is currently a member of Titans South. Roy Harper is still going by "Arsenal" - though recent events have made him question that identity. A few years ago, he lead the Titans in recovering his former lover, Donna Troy, from the realm of the dead. Since then the pair has married and have a son in addition to Lian and the family continues to be involved with Titans East. Connor Hawke is still a dedicated Buddhist, never was altered to have healing factor, has been serving as the Green Arrow assigned to the JLA and has not had an affair with Shadow. Ollie has taken on more of a teacher/mentor role with his family. Lian Harper is
twelve, very much alive, and has been receiving Amazon training, courtesy of her stepmother.
Wonders: Diana's cut-off after Greg Rucka's run with the takeover of Olympus by Athene with Diana as her champion. The last solid story is the one where Diana getting her vision restored. Donna Troy's origin and connections to the Wonder family has been sorted out. Troia's return to life was covered in the our story "
Olympics," which was vastly different then her return in DC. (Ours involved Arsenal and large scale nudity while still being a PG-13 story...) Zeus was revealed to be Cassie's father.
Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan's return was pretty much line by line as it was in the comic. Everything that has been being done in Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps since then was or is in the process of being adapted by our current players creating stories inspired by the different Corps in the current comics. Jade (Jenny-Lynn Hayden) is alive. Ion recently went to someone other than Kyle. Alan Scott
is not involved with Checkmate.
Atlantis: Imperix War,
Obsidian Age, the war with Cerdia, and Sub Diego were all kept. We also kept the lame "me or the Titans" ultimatum with Dolphin and led it to its natural conclusion (especially when Tula showed back up). Mera and Black Manta are dead. After political unrest in Atlantis, Arthur once again sits on the throne - but the kingdom remains close to complete mess. Some Atlanteans and exiled Amazons have created a half aquatic/half surface city named Avalon off the East coast of the United States and have appointed Tula to be the leader of the new independent city-state. See character pages for more details.
JSA: After the first Johns run but before the whole post-Crisis line up. Jesse Quick still has her company, speed powers, mother issues, and is not married, though she is date Rick Tyler. Damage still has a face. Hawkman is still the God-d*mn Pharaoh and Hawkgirl never dated Arsenal. When Kendra recently died, Shiera was returned to life. Both Stargirl and Starman have functioning cosmic rods. Dr. Mid-Nite and Black Canary renewed their relationship, but due to story events Dinah's relationships with both him and Ollie have been difficult for her to sort out. Secret was a ward of the team for awhile, but has since returned to the Titans.
Superman: Manchester Black's "Elite" story entitled
Ending Game which ended in the character's suicide was the last story we have directly referenced. Since then, Superman has had, and then lost, a son though the world outside of Lois and Clark does not remember this.
Super-buddies:
I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League is in. The Marvels did lose power, but they got better. Fire does pose questionably on the internet. Ice is back, but the circumstances are nebulous.
Doom Patrol: Volumes one and two are for the most part considered canon. The team were last seen under Thayer Jost. Certain elements from the climax of Grant Morrison's run on the series have not been incorporated. The nanobot sub-plot never occured, and it is assumed that Josh Clay was killed by the Candlemaker rather than the Chief. Likewise, the Chief is not responsible for Cliff, Larry and Rita's original accidents. Since this continuity did not have Superboy Prime wrecking timelines, Rita Farr remains dead and the team is currently inactive.
From May of 2004 to April of 2008 this community was part of the JLA Watchtower community on LiveJournal. There was a management change in Januarary of 2008 and that new management insisted on having a Crisis to reboot their canon and make it more in-line with DC's stories. We, as players and plotters, didn't feel that was a direction we wanted to go in. This split led to the DC Nation community. However, all canon from Year One and through the first quarter of Year Five is taken from JLA Watchtower and Watchtower players are free to use, join and add comments to this work. They are not, however, allowed to edit this wiki.
